Income - Expenses = Profit
For those who are new to online business, I’ve found that most are thinking about how much money they can make online, not cutting expenses and saving money on the things they use for business.
However, if you want to make money from any business, you have to watch your expenses. If your expenses are out of hand, they’ll cut into your profits.
If you run an online business, here are some areas in your business you may want to consider cutting costs:
1. Web Hosting
Why buy more web hosting than you have to? If you run a membership site of some type that uses a lot of bandwidth and requires lots of space, then spend the money.
For the average website owner though, there are plenty of bargains available and the hosting is reliable. Do your homework. Understand what features your webhost offers. This will help you choose what you need. If you don’t need databases, or you don’t need a ton of space, don’t pay for it. It’s a waste of money.
2. Affiliate Program Management
My affiliate program management script is part of my web hosting, and it’s one of the few solutions online that’s offered that way. Often you will have to pay for this service separately. If you are just starting out, you want to keep the costs here as low as possible.
Start by looking for a script you may install on your own server to use. A one time solution will save you a lot of money over the long haul. Check your features. Decide what you need first and explore your options.
If you can’t find a solution within your budget, consider some type of monthly membership. There are plenty of these available, and some are inexpensive and feature rich at the same time.
3. Autoresponders
If you need to build lists for your business, then you definitely need autoresponders. Depending on which system you choose, the costs can add up quickly.
If you’re not planning to build large lists, or you don’t need a lot of lists, consider buying a script of your own and installing it on your server. Also, check to see if your web host offers some type of solution. This will save you time and money.
If you need a more comprehensive solution, then shop around. Bargains abound.
4. Physical Supplies
This can quickly become a large expense, especially if you think you need all of the latest and greatest in computers, phones, office supplies, or anything else.
If possible, buy on sale and look for bargains. Buy only what you need, and don’t waste your time on equipment you don’t.
5. Office Space/Equipment
One of the reasons I started a business was so that I could work at home. Working at home is my sanctuary. However, as your business grows, you may think that you need more space than just the kitchen table at odd hours.
Again, look for bargains when renting space and equipment. Although location may be important if you feel the need to work outside of your home, location can cost you a lot of money.

Making money online with social media and social networking is often looked at with mysticism, confusion, doubt, and misguidance. We will go over the numerous principles to capitalizing on these powerful mediums and why so many other techniques often fail. First we must understand what social media and networking sites are, and what they are not.
According to Wikipedia social media is “activities that integrate technology, telecommunications and social interaction”; social networking is very similar stating “facilitates communication between a group of individuals or organizations….shared values.” The most obvious word the two share is social; the goal of these websites is to bring people together in a relevant, organized fashion, to better transfer their knowledge and passions. They are not identical but the principles are the same: people sharing knowledge, organization, shared interests. We will use the term social media to represent both fields.
Chances are you have read somewhere to focus on niche marketing. While being in a niche is a solid business plan, understand that people are people, and like people, we all are more alike than dissimilar. Do not miss out on the opportunity to reach new audiences for fear of being different; people have broad interests, personalities, and “light bulbs” that go off when they see something alien to them. If you, like many marketers focus only on niches you will pigeon hole your own growth. Here is an example. I co-run GameFriends.com, a social network for all things video game related. The gamers in the community vary from hardcore, to casual, and every degree in between. Now, if we strictly marketed to known gamers we would have a finite pool (albeit enormous) but we would be missing out on people that did NOT actively know they wanted to play games until the opportunity arose. The idea works the same way as “impulse buying”. Native Americans did not know Columbus came by boats because they did not “see” the boats; it wasn’t in their realm of consciousness. It was only after they were exposed to them did they “see them”. Marketing works the same way; let your product/service enter the minds of the masses and you will gain new audiences.
Now making money online is not all about you (scary isn’t it?). You are in a relationship with the internet, the social media site you are utilizing, and the people within it. How would you like it if your girlfriend made you mow the lawn, cook her dinner and satisfy her needs and told you good night? You would feel used at the very least, and ready to explode (with anger ha). Now on the other hand if she cooked you dinner while you mowed the lawn and gave you a back massage you would both feel pretty good. Mutual benefit is the only way true relationships work. Never make the mistake of trying to get something out of someone for nothing. As Earl nightingale has taught us mutual benefit is the only real way for prosperity. When approaching a social medium, whether a forum, a bookmarking oriented site such as digg or reddit, or a large network such facebook, myspace or GameFriends you must enter with the mindset of contributing positively to the community. In fact, making money online is the last step to becoming successful. You will only make money online once you have become successful and contributing to others success.
Social media is not a place to drop as many links and spam as many people as possible. If you treat it as such you will be wasting your time. Behind social media are real life people like yourself. Just think how you would want to be treated. Keep in mind however this does not mean you can personally connect with each person. I love interacting with people but it is just not possible on a mass scale depending on your niche or product. To counteract this you must be as open and honest about your intentions and what you hope to bring to the community. An example of positively contributing to Digg would be to compile a list of the best of X, and truly taking your time to make it relevant to your product/service, or creating a Facebook group to raise awareness of your business with quality content. Yahoo Answers and GameFriends Ask a Gamer are great examples of researching and sharing knowledge and being rewarded with a link back to your website, as well as the quality article directories that distribute this.
Action. There are thousands of social media websites. To start you should sign up to about 5 of them and contribute your knowledge and add friends. If you contribute to each social medium (daily progress) you will have a great standing within the community in just 30 days. The more active you are the quicker the process becomes. Then after this time you will be able to let your friends know and others within the community about your shiny new red model cars for sale, or whatever you are selling. This isn’t a guarantee of success, but if you sign up and tell everyone about your shiny new red model cars before some foreplay you will be kicked out of the metaphorical bed, aka social medium. If you are in the game industry you can read a more thorough article titled how to make money online with gamefriends (coming soon). Remember to utilize niche mediums but not to limit yourself, contribute your knowledge in a relevant way to expose your product, make friends, patience, passion, and determination. Not everyone has the budget to run a huge website but since the advent of blogger and other amazing services all you need is the willingness to share your passions and you can turn a “simple blog” into a powerhouse of informative content that other networks recognize for its professionalism and a trusted website backed by a real person.

Although it seems to be a self-defining term, “lead generation” can mean a lot of different things depending upon whom you ask. In fact, lead generation companies usually agree on the broadest definition of the goal-simply put, to get your business good leads-while putting a great deal of energy, if not original thinking, into making their techniques and methods sound scientific, futuristic, somewhat magical or downright clairvoyant. They will also expend a lot of verbiage trying to convince you how very different they are from the competition. The kinds of leads your particular business needs varies, based on a long list of factors. The industry you are in, the kind of sales and marketing programs into which you will “plug” those leads when you get them, your own in-house lead generation efforts, the state of the economy, the scope of your efforts and countless other considerations are part of this heady mix. You may, in fact, hear sales pitches from these firms stressing both the similarities and differences of your business compared to your competitors, and their business compared to other lead generators. It can get pretty confusing at times. Grow with what you know There are a lot of articles, in print periodicals and on the Internet, about “the secret” to this, that and the other thing, from wealth and happiness to fluffy pancakes and no-money-down real estate deals. In business matters, readers have learned to be a bit skeptical about such magical thinking, but in this case the secret comes down to the same, core truth that lies at the heart of most commercial success. The secret, as it usually is, has to do with good, honest and clear communication. If you resist the urge to you roll your eyes and give this article the virtual “heave-ho,” thinking you’ve heard it all before, you just might learn the secret to growing your business with a lead generation company-a secret that will help you with a lot of other endeavors, as well. The clear communication we’re talking about has to go on at all levels of your business, in all internal and external relations, with everyone from customers to vendors, and at all times. Now, this is an ideal to aim for, of course, and not a simple target you are expected to hit with every shot. However, if you don’t get honest feedback from your customers (or, heaven forbid, you don’t ask for it!), or straightforward insights from your customer service reps, or the truth about sales campaigns from your sales/marketing managers, you will never be able to give honest, usable information to a lead generation company. If the people who are going to get you leads don’t have the straight story, you will waste your money, their time and a golden opportunity to grow your business. Fill in the blanks first The secret, then, is to be honest and clear in your communications. There may be just the one secret, but the to-do list that flows from it is a long one, covering a lot of bases. For now we are concerned with how you will relate to the lead generation company, so we will leave the implementation of your company’s “honest and open communication philosophy” to you. When you feel that you are have the good, solid information that you need, move forward and contact a few lead generation firms for a chat. You will be asked the same basic questions by all of them, so be prepared to fill in the blanks ahead of time. You will need to answer the following questions (at minimum): - What is the profile of your ideal customer? - Who benefits the most from your product or service? - What wants and needs does your product or service fulfill? - What are the goals of your company’s sales and marketing plan? Certainly, you will have to educate the lead generation firm on your product or service, as well, but the best information you can give them is what you have learned from your current customers. You need to discover what your customers have gained, and how their lives have been affected, through using your product or service. You need to gather this information in-house so that the lead generation consultants can work with you to devise ways to identify, qualify and present prospects to your sales team. Capturing the right info There are several ways you can develop the information that the lead generation firms need. This really is something that you want to be in control of, and should not farm out to anyone, not even the lead generation company. You may have procedures in place already for capturing customer feedback, through your website(s), the customer service department, the order process, etc. Remember that people do business with other people, not with inanimate companies, so relationships are always key. Building relationships with customers, and the prospects they refer, is an important step toward getting a complete picture of your targeted customer group(s). With this kind of honest, accurate information, lead generation companies will be able to do more than rehash the old “shotgun” marketing methods (scatter the buckshot and see what you might hit). A mix of demographics, consumer psychology, anecdotal reports and historical customer buying patterns will likely result in the quality, targeted leads that are the seeds of every business’s growth. Get the right information to the lead generation folks, and they will generate enough good leads to start you on your way. Of course, it’s your sales team that will have to close the sales, but we’ll wrap this up with another little secret. Perhaps it’s not such a secret after all, but it’s true nonetheless: The way to keep your sales force motivated is with a constant supply of quality, qualified leads. The leads become sales, the prospects become customers and the customers become part of the feedback loop that keeps your information fresh and your lead generation company busy. And that’s good for everyone involved!

The internet is a forum for perpetual innovation and this is evidenced once again with the development of the Twitter community. There are very few people who have not heard of Twitter since it is mentioned frequently in various media channels. The reason for the constant mentioned of Twitter is fairly self-evident. Twitter is a fantastic communicative medium that can help serve a number of purposes. One beneficial strategy people enjoy Twitter for is to booster traffic to their website. How is the achieved? The process is quite simple.
What Is Twitter?
Twitter has been best described as a mini blogging site. Unlike other blogs, Twitter involves sending a series of very short blog notices. These short blog entries are then read by those members of the writer’s Twitter account. Of course, these short blog entrees (called tweets) can be read by anyone who comes across them surfing the web as well. Now, if one were to employ Twitter as a means of boosting website traffic, this process would be far easier than most imagine.
How It Works To Boost Traffic
Here is the way it works: let’s say you have made an update to your website. Clearly, you would want people to read your new update and in order for them to do this, they must be made aware of the updates. So, through Twitter, you would make a series of tweets announcing the updates. Of course, you would also add a link to the various tweets so the readers can follow the links to the site. Those readers of the Twitter account then become the newly boosted traffic to the site. Does this sound simple? If it does, it is because it is!
Clearly, the more tweets you make promoting your website, the more traffic you will drive to the site. As such, a two-pronged strategy of updated your website and then tweeting about it should work tremendously well in terms of boosting much needed traffic to the site. Performing this strategy will reap huge traffic dividends if it performed consistently.

Resale products work in such a way that the owner sells you the license to resell his or her product and keep any and all profits that you might generate from a sale. PLR or Private Label Rights is a step up from resale rights. PLR, Private Label Rights, grants you the license to edit, modify and resell a PLR product as your own.
Having the ownership of PLR products you are allowed to do all the revisions or editing that you may want. You can add any links that you want to, promote any product that you are marketing, add your own illustrations or images and add in any additional content that you want to. When you’re finished you can add your name as the author.
Private Label Rights products can be ebooks, software, special reports and even niche articles.
The downside to PLR products:
PLR articles can be used incorrectly. Many users simply take the PLR articles and submit is as their own. This can lead to them getting banned by the better article sites. PLR articles should be rewritten by at least 30% for most article submission sites. The PLR articles are not unique and most article submission sites are looking for unique content. (Visit PLRAdvantage.com to find fast and easy methods of modifying PLR articles).
PLR ebooks can be great tools and depending on their age and content turned around and sold “as is”. However, if the PLR ebook is in a niche like computers or electronics, the marketer who tries to sell these ebooks as is, will not find a very friendly audience. PLR ebooks need to be rewritten to be effective – ESPECIALLY in the fast moving niches.
PLR software is in the same boat as PLR ebooks and PLR articles, however, they CAN be used “as is” more effectively. For beginner Internet Marketers this PLR software may be the only tools that they can afford as they start up their business. It’s recommended to be up front about the PLR software limitations, and be able to direct your customers to upgraded products. A sure win-win situation.
PLR Advantages:
Time savers! Most of the niche research has already been done for you = this can save you hours and hours of time.
No need for “Resource Boxes”. You can add links and comments on particular products that you’re promoting anywhere in the PLR ebook that you want. There are no ads to distract your reader either.
PLR products are cost effective. For a fraction of the cost to hire someone to write original content for you – you can have PLR ebooks and articles that are almost ready to go.
You can get your name out there. Brand yourself and build trust in potential customers.
PLR ebooks and PLR articles are written specifically to answer certain niche questions. They are the perfect answer to many webmasters problems.
To learn more uses for your PLR products visit PLR Advantage. Then you should mosey on over to eLibraryProducts.com to have a look see at a site that offers <a rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank” href=”http:///PLR” target=”_blank”>www.eLibraryProducts.com”>PLR products at fantastic prices and uses an unusual interface for PLR. One of the biggest mistakes most businesses make in a recession is to cut their marketing plans even though marketing is the lifeblood of your business. If you don’t market, you don’t make sales.
Now it may be more difficult to make money online if you are having to slash your marketing costs, but that doesn’t mean you should stop marketing. All you have to do is be a little more creative.
One of the most effective ways to market your business and really get results is through repetition. The more you put your marketing message in front of your potential customers, the more likely you are to get results. (Think opt in lists and ezines.)
Just make sure that your marketing is targeted. In other words, market in front of those who are interested in what you sell. Don’t waste your time on people who aren’t interested in what you have to offer.
Market your business using free online and offline techniques. Online techniques include search engine optimization, article writing, forum marketing, press releases, classified advertising and joint ventures. Offline, you may want to consider buying business cards, creating flyers, using low cost classifieds in free papers.
As your business continues to make more money, roll some of your profits back into your marketing plan. The more you market, the more you can increase your profits.
Another thing you want to consider is your own marketing and copywriting skills. What skills do you have? This will influence how you market your business. If you don’t have these skills, you definitely want to develop them. These skills will make your more effective in promoting your business. The more effective you are, the less you will have to work to get the sale.
How you market is also another major consideration. When you’re first starting off, you will only want to try one marketing technique at a time. If you try more than one technique at a time, you will have difficulty telling which technique is driving traffic and sales in your business.
Choose a technique that you want to do. I personally use article writing and submission because it gets me all of the traffic and sales I need. Consider too that I’m also a writer so it’s something I enjoy doing.
If you hate the marketing technique you are doing, you won’t do it. You’ll also find that although there are many techniques that work, there is one technique that will work best for you if you give it your best effort.
Market more. Market consistently. Master your marketing technique. Test and track your marketing. These are your keys to success. Much of marketing is trial and error until you determine what works. You’ll never know until you get started.

When doing internet marketing one of the main thing we need to check is the commercial intention a keyword has, we’re talking about weather the keyword has a history of generating sales based on the keywords past performance. The thing about keywords is that some may have a high search volume, but have a poor history of generating sales; this would make those keywords useless as far as selling something is concerned. But keywords that have poor commercial intention may have some value in generating leads for mailing list. These lists could possibly lead to sales over time from your subscriber base.
So when we look at all the criteria that our keywords need to meet, we start to see that it is not always going to be easy to find good keywords. The big question is how we find these keywords. One thing that we can do to make our search for keywords a bit easier is to go for the low hanging fruit, as they say in the internet marketing industry.
What I mean by this is we don’t concentrate on single keyword terms, but rather we look for keyword phrases. Getting back to the example of the cars, instead of my keyword being “cars” it might be “Ford Tempo cars”, this is being a lot more definitive about what I am selling or promoting. This also lowers the competition by using a (longtail) keywords definition.
If I were to use the term “buy Ford Tempo cars” now by adding the word buy into this phrase, I will have a phrase with a higher commercial intention. The fact that the keywords definition is such a long search term lowers the possibility of competition of this phrase. When doing internet marketing good keyword research is the most important aspect of your marketing efforts.
Now to sum this up, when you use a phrase like “buy Ford Tempo cars” this is often referred to as a (longtail) keyword phrase. These longtail have some distinctive characteristics. The longer your keyword phrase means a sharp drop in competition, but greater commercial intention for the phrase. The only bad thing about longtail terms is they always have lower search volume.
Well this covers this segment on keywords definition. In the next article I will discuss how we find those keyword phrases, what free tools are available to help us in our search. We will also look at how you can use Google to do a lot of your keyword research, as well as many other aspects of internet marketing.

Are people making money online? Yes! But the key is recognizing that marketing online is a ‘real’ business! So you would want to treat it as such and make smart decisions which would positively impact your cash flow. Many marketers are still not making the money they want to make, so certainly it calls for some assessment of what products & services you are marketing and what strategies you are using to expand your business & your profits. Too many times this is overlooked
Jay Abraham says, ‘the easiest and fastest way to instantly transform your business results is to change the strategy you follow’. Given that, you would want to take a hard look at what markets you are in and establish whether that market could generate the solid profits you seek
Once that is established, then you work on your marketing strategy and tactics to get the results you are planning on. Plan before you embark on a new business opportunity
How do I choose a business? There are many, many business opportunities online but a great number of them are a waste of time and effort. In addition to that, I wouldn’t advise you to put all your eggs in one basket either. You have to be smart with your marketing and work towards setting up a few sources of income rather than one. But the key is get one stream of income set up and running before you embark on another
Here’s what Perry Marshall recently said, ‘For most businesses, the failure rate is 90%. For “anybody can do it” type of businesses, the failure rate is 99.9%.’ So choose your business wisely and be wary of those businesses that promise big payout for little or no work. Most don’t last 6 months! Do your due diligence and start setting yourself up to win in business
Coach Nadira Haniff of 180DaysToGreatness, recently said, ‘It would take learning new skills and new methods of marketing to give entrepreneurs the winning edge in 2009. The old school of network marketing has become an obsolete dinosaur, yet many companies still teach their distributors only these methods. And we still have veteran networkers, grappling, not only with a changing market place because of new technology; but a new wave of entrepreneurs solely driven by the driving need to generate ‘current’ income today for their families’
And I am sure many of you can relate to that, because creating a current income in today’s economic downturn has becoming increasingly critical to families. And that’s why more than ever, you need to pay attention to the businesses which you become involved with and promote. Your income and your reputation will depend on
Is Social Media playing a part in strategic marketing online? Absolutely! Social media has become a big player in online marketing because of the ease in which marketers can connect with large numbers of people at the same time. In addition communicating and building relationships are accelerated at a quicken pace so paving the way for an increase in business
Of course, there is a learning curve here also. Facebook and Twitter are big players and command a huge audience. But understanding how to navigate these networks and what works at producing the best results needs to be understood and practiced to get the best results
So don’t hesitate to add social media marketing to your strategic plan. It will be worth the while and effort in the long run
